Collection: Ametrine

Ametrine is a rare, two-colored gemstone that naturally combines both amethyst (violet) and citrine (yellow/gold) in a single crystal. This fascinating play of colors arises from different oxidation states of iron during crystal formation – a geological phenomenon that occurs only under exceptional conditions.

Ametrine is not only aesthetically unique, but also offers the rare interplay of two gemstone colors in a single stone – making it a sought-after exotic in both jewelry design and the collector and investment sector.

  • Key properties of ametrine

    • Hardness: 7 on the Mohs scale – well suited for pendants, rings and gemstone settings in everyday life.
    • Color: Combination of violet amethyst and golden citrine; the color gradient is clearly defined and even in high-quality specimens.
    • Transparency: High-quality ametrins are brilliant, eye-clean, and possess a balanced color balance.
    • Locations: The most important and practically only commercial source is the Anahí mine in Bolivia – finds from there are considered to be of particularly high quality.
  • Ametrine as an investment

Although ametrine isn't considered a classic like ruby or sapphire, it's enjoying increasing popularity among designers, collectors, and gemstone enthusiasts – especially in high, natural quality. Large, clearly cut stones with sharp color contrast are particularly sought after.

The market for exceptional ametrine is small but steadily growing. Individual designer pieces featuring high-quality ametrine stones are fetching increasingly higher prices among specialized collectors – especially when the color distribution is natural and harmonious.

  • Effect of ametrine

In gemstone tradition, ametrine symbolizes the union of opposites : intuition (amethyst) and clarity (citrine), tranquility and energy, mind and matter. It is considered a stone of harmony, inner balance, and creative connection.

Ametrine is not an official birthstone for any month in the classic or modern birthstone lists (e.g., according to GIA or AGTA).

However, ametrine consists of two gemstones, amethyst and citrine , which are both officially birthstones :

    • AmethystFebruary
    • CitrineNovember
