Chrysoberyl is a resistant aluminum beryllium oxide and is considered one of the higher-quality gemstones. It occurs in various color variations, from yellowish-green and golden-yellow to brownish hues. Clear, intensely colored specimens with vibrant brilliance are particularly prized. Among the best-known varieties are alexandrite (with color change) and cat's-eye chrysoberyl (with a pronounced chatoyancy effect). Significant deposits are located in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Tanzania, and India.
